How to Make an Irish Coffee with Baileys - Down The Range Coffee

What is an Irish coffee?

An Irish coffee is a variety of espresso that has 4 key ingredients that includes coffee, sugar, cream and Irish whiskey.

There are two important things that you should remember when trying to make an Irish coffee. One, the coffee must be strong, and two, the whiskey that you’ll be using should be Irish. Makes no sense to use a Scotch whiskey in making an Irish coffee. Don’t you think?

This cream on top of the Irish coffee and the whiskey makes it a unique coffee drink. Whip the cream before pouring it over the coffee, or you can simply use a spoon.

Making an Irish coffee the traditional way

An Irish coffee is classically a coffee in a glass so the layers will clearly show. This can either be a plain espresso or an espresso with hot water, brown sugar (can be omitted), Irish whiskey, and a thick whipped cream.

To make the cream float, get a teaspoon and slant it across the mouth of the glass and position it just over the top of the coffee. Make sure that the curve part is facing upward. Then slowly pour the cream at the back of the teaspoon. While you’re pouring in the cream, gently retreat the spoon little by little. The trick in keeping the cream afloat is to prevent the spoon from touching the coffee’s surface.

It is pretty hard to make the cream float. Other coffee shops even have to use a whipped cream dispenser or spray to make their job easier.

Making an Irish coffee using Baileys whiskey

One of the most popular coffee recipes is the Baileys coffee. This must-try cocktail drink is easy, quick and simple to make.

Here are the ingredients:

  • Brewed coffee
  • Baileys Original Irish cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate syrup or sauce
  • Hot water

Directions:

Step 1: Beat the cream

Measure 2 tablespoon of Bailey’s Original Irish Cream and beat it lightly until it thickens, but not so thick - just the right pouring consistency. Remember, you’re making an Irish coffee, not frappe. Set aside.

Step 2: Pour hot water

Get a coffee glass then fill it with hot water and allow it to sit for 1 minute.

Step 3: Add the brewed coffee

Mix 2 teaspoons of ground brewed coffee into the glass of hot water. Stir.

Step 4: Add the Irish whiskey

Pour 1 ounce of Irish whiskey and stir well.

Step 5: Top off with cream

Now, get a teaspoon and place it just above the coffee in a slanting position with the curve facing upwards. Make sure that spoon does not touch the surface of the coffee. Then pour the cream over the curve of the spoon slowly to prevent from running down the bottom.

Step 5: Time for the add-on

To finish it off, drizzle some chocolate syrup on top of the cream. Then it’s ready to consume.

That’s it! With just 5 easy Steps!

The Baileys iced coffee is often served as a cocktail drink during mealtime and as a refreshment during the summer season. It is likewise an exceptional drink during the holidays.

You can also give this cocktail drink a bit of a twist. Maybe you can add a scoop of chocolate, vanilla or caramel ice cream. Such a yummy treat!
